Setting the Bait

Mother Nature teaches us a lot about marketing and strategy. One may be amazed at how the Venus flytrap sets up its wonderful bait and attracts flies to its lair, or at how a certain turtle wiggles its tough to draw fishes into its mouth. Bam! That’s strategy. In the field of marketing, everything is strategy. These strategies ranging from Sun Tzu’s Art of War to Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince are favorite subjects in the corporate world. In the field of internet marketing, websites must come up with “baits” in order to draw in more attention from the market. Some have good baits, others have bad ones. So what exactly constitutes a good strategy or bait? With the goal of generating more traffic into our site, we need just the right bait to achieve our goals.

One of the best things that could happen to us is when people link us without having to do anything at all. I guess, this is the pure benefit of marketing. One of the ways to achieve this is by setting up your own bait. Just like fishing, we too need the right bait for the right customers. Unless we want to remain in the game of chances, which can happen if you have one of those boring and dull sites, having a creative and appealing website is the key to setting up the right bait. Truth is we will all need the extra effort to promote our site. There is no easier way than to get that bait and throw it in the water, then time to wait patiently for that big fish to come.

What constitutes a good bait? Here are some key points.

  1. First, we need to find that good bait for ourselves. Meaning, we need the proper strategy, maybe in the form of free goodies and a trip to the moon.

  1. Second thing we need is the right effort. This could also mean that we must have the right posture and method – the right package, the right process.

  1. Third is patience. Like the fishermen in the lake waiting patiently for that catch, we may need to wait patiently too in order to attain success. No giving up, no surrender. Patience will have its reward.

And our bait could either be in the form of the following packages:

  1. Free Stuff – These could be in the form of freebies. Most websites offer free stuff, or give away freebies. These are powerful baits when applied correctly.
  2. Free Newsletters – Some websites out there give away free newsletters every week, or even everyday. They know that when they give their good advice to others for free, they will get more profit in return in the end.
  3. Free Ebooks – Yes. Some authors even give away their newly written Ebooks for free. It is one way to promote his or her product or more of a preview on what interested visitors could find.
  4. Free Videos – Other sites post their videos for free. Videos of course posses more value and meaning for the majority. This is a form of bait you shouldn’t miss out.
